Music at the Sea

Music at the Sea 2008

In the year 2001 the acclaimed violin vituoso Julian Rachlin founded a festival of chamber music in Dubrovnik. He introduced a new and successful concept of gathering some of the most famous world musicians and letting them play the music that they personally enjoy. In 2008 the austrian filmmaker Georg Riha joined the festival to cinematically accompany the star violinist: Masterly, as usual, and in the highest aesthetics as well as in technical quality, he succeeded with this film composition to tape the magical atmosphere of the city at the sea and the relaxed artistic work of Julian Rachlin and his friends. See the Rector’s Palace, rehearsals, the sea, conversations, sun and wind, concerts and a lot of fun.

Richard Rodgers: The Sweetest Sound

Richard Rodgers: The Sweetest Sound 2001

In a prolific career that spanned seven decades, Richard Rodgers wrote over 900 songs for more than 70 shows - a body of work unmatched by any other theatrical composer in American history. His celebrated partnerships with lyricists Lorenz Hart and Oscar Hammerstein II produced some of the most beloved musicals of all time, from 'Babes in Arms', 'Pal Joey' and 'Oklahoma!' and 'Carousel', 'South Pacific', 'The King and I' and 'The Sound of Music'. But unknown to many, the man behind the Broadway curtain was dark and solitary - in complete contrast with the music he created. 'American Masters' takes an unprecedented look at the legendary composer with 'Richard Rodgers: The Sweetest Sounds'. Narrated by Tony Roberts, this compelling film portrait features interviews with Julie Andrews, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Trevor Nunn and Celeste Holm as well as archival performances by Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Diahann Carroll, Mary Martin, John Coltrane and Barbra Streisand.

Four "team captains" were chosen to lead 57 artists from 45 past and present Roadrunner bands, and produce and oversee the album's 18 tracks: Joey Jordison of Slipknot and Murderdolls; Matt Heafy of Trivium; Dino Cazares of Fear Factory, Asesino and Divine Heresy and formerly of Brujeria; and Robert Flynn of Machine Head and formerly of Vio-lence and Forbidden. The unprecedented project was the brainchild of Roadrunner UK General Manager Mark Palmer and Roadrunner USA VP of A&R Monte Conner.

Herbert Von Karajan Memorial Concert

Herbert Von Karajan Memorial Concert 2008

A triumph of remembrance, wrote Die Welt following this stirring concert given by the Berliner Philharmoniker under Seiji Ozawa and with Anne-Sophie Mutter as soloist. It left its audience hovering between hushed reverence and deafening exultation. The Golden Hall of Vienna's Musikverein was the dazzling venue for the live recording of this concert celebrating the 100th birthday of Herbert von Karajan. And there Karajan s Berliner never sounded better, evoking a time which selfconfidently sought the private and subjective in music, and believed it could find them in the mirror of the works (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung). It is a concert that commemorates Herbert von Karajan for the ages in a supremely moving manner. Beethoven: Violin Concerto, Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6, Bach: Sarabande,br. Seiji Ozawa, Anne-Sophie Mutter

David Bowie Live at Beat Club Musikladen

David Bowie Live at Beat Club Musikladen 1978

Before the end of 1976, Bowie's interest in the burgeoning German music scene, as well as his drug addiction, prompted him to move to West Berlin to clean up and revitalise his career. Working with Brian Eno while sharing an apartment in Schöneberg with Iggy Pop, he began to focus on minimalist, ambient music for the first of three albums, co-produced with Tony Visconti, that would become known as his Berlin Trilogy.
